Yes, please show some pictures, I have been thinking of similar ideas, along
with an idea for an arm that would hold an LCD panel and allow it to be slid
down beside the wheelchair when not in use.

For serious speech recognition you need quite a bit of horsepower.
Check this out ...

http://www.advantech.com/estore/products/Model_Detail.asp?model_id=1-9QR93

Price is $340 for 400Mhz and they have a special $331 for 667 Mhz ...
It supports 512MB RAM, has audio onboard, and has PC/104, so you
can add a dual PCMCIA module for WLAN, CDPD/CDMA/whatever.
It has LVDS output, which means you can have long cable length
to LCDs (not limited to 18 inches like most digital LCD connections,
therefore the cable could be inside an arm that holds the LCD in
front of you on the wheelchair). It also has a serious graphics
accelerator (S3 Savage4). It needs 5 and 12 volts, but a regulator
that does both can be found at either TI, Datel, or Maxim.
