It sounds like there might be a cooling problem
running an iBook with the lid closed.  Add to that
the potential cooling problem of having it running
in a backpack and it sounds like a bad idea.

OTOH, you could wear it in front and use the LCD
as a SMD (Stomach Mounted Display), or use some
foam or whatnot to keep the lid from closing all
the way, etc.
