does this sleep function get invoked when the lid is closed on all OSs? what 
about putting a small switch (mpja.com has some good examples, but high 
prices) inbetween the sensor that determines the iBook is closed and the 
system board

that way you can "open" or "close" the iBook with a small toggle switch or a 
on/off type sliding switch
I do see how it would be preferable to find the software solution first 
though...

which OS do you intend to use with the iBook?
