Myself and a friend are trying to assemble a small wearable system that can grab frames from a firewire camera and store them (We were thinking of using CF for storage). It seems like a bit of overkill to buy a PC-104 board and firewire module or mini-ITX board for such a simple task, but I'm not too sure what else to do. In any case, in terms of software, I gather that White Dwarf Linux is the best bet for an OS. Unfortunately, I am a bit stumped when it comes to the grabbing and storing of frames. I have a fair knowledge of Java and a pretty rudimentary knowledge of C, is this a relatively easy task to accomplish in either language? Also, does the process vary much from camera to camera? Any links to resource sites would be hugely appreciated.
