HMD eye placement. which eye?

What eye should the HMD be in front of? I thought I
had read somewhere that it goes over your dominant
eye. Is is this the case? I may end up hacking a
monocular HMD or using an HMD where switching eyes
would not be practical. So it would be of great help
to have a good idea of what eye the HMD should go
over.
