Wildplanet is releasing a HUD text-messaging update to the old headset walkie-talkie concept, the Eye Link Communicator. Appropriate links here : www.spygear.net - main FLASH site http://www.wildplanet.com/helpcenter/instructions/SpyEyeLink.pdf - .PDF of instructions for toy. In short, it's a wearable wireless terminal for kids selling for $40.00/pair (not $30/pair as Wired says.) It transmits on the 433Mhz band, just like the TX/RX433 modules of yore. (sidenote: I like the TX433, it seems easy to use - http://students.washington.edu/natetrue/wlcolor/wlcolor.html - details it's use in a homemade Ambient Orb) My first thought on seeing this was using it as a wireless ultra-dumb terminal via a serial-attached 433 transceiver attached to a computer running custom inteface software. Then I realized that it would probably be reasonable to drive the display itself via some sort of serial interface. I am not a wireless computer researcher of any stripe, though. I haven't the time, education, or inclination to even starrt this project. But, I figure that someone on this list could find something to do with a nearly-disposable scrolling-text LCD. Personally, I would love to see a project that combines old Palm Pilots with these things for ultra-cheap wearable silliness. -- Subscription/unsubscription/info requests: send e-mail with subject of "subscribe", "unsubscribe", or "info" toWear-Hard Mailing List Archive (searchable): http://wearables.blu.org Please, *PLEASE* don't subscribe through a forward/expander/false domain
